Kaplan Leadership Program 2020

Brief Description:

The Kaplan Leadership Program (KLP) is designed for associate's degree students like you! Our unique and comprehensive approach to student support combines need-based scholarship aid with college guidance geared toward helping you transfer to a competitive bachelor’s degree program so that you can take control of your future, and achieve your academic, career and leadership goals!

1. Academic advising and transfer admissions support to help you transition from your associate's degree program to a bachelor's degree program.

  • Work one-on-one with an academic advisor to define your leadership path at your community college and beyond 
  • Work one-on-one with a transfer admissions advisor to identify the right four-year program for you and remain competitive as a transfer admissions applicant
  • Visit four-year schools throughout the US

2. Financial support to help cover the costs of attending college.

  • Get a scholarship of up to $3,000 per year toward your associate's degree
  • Receive a Living Stipend of up to $500 a month
  • Receive a new laptop
  • Get the full cost of your transfer applications covered (est. value of $1,000)
  • Qualify to receive funding to cover your transportation and moving costs to your 4-year school

3. Personal development, leadership training, and mentoring to help you meet your full potential.

  • Participate in leadership workshops led by industry leaders and other professionals
  • Improve your skills with individual tutoring in Math, English, and the Sciences
  • Get career counseling, job placement support, and admissions guidance for graduate and professional programs
  • Mentoring from KLP Alumni

4. Cultural enrichment opportunities so you can learn, see, and do more!

  • Attend cultural events, and go on visits focused on the rich diversity of NYC 



Eligibility:


Kaplan Leadership Program Eligibility


All applicants to the Kaplan Leadership Program must meet the following qualifications for consideration:

  • Be a current student enrolled in an accredited associate's degree program in the New York City area
  • Earned Minimum GPA of 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Completed at least 24 non-remedial college credits by the end of your Fall 2020 Semester*
  • Be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Qualify for federal and/or state financial aid
  • Be Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino/Latinx or Native American
  • Committed to transfer to a bachelor's program immediately upon completion of associate's degree 

*If you are graduating at the end of the Fall 2020 semester, and meet all the eligibility requirements, please go ahead and submit an application for review.  



Kaplan Leadership Program Selection Criteria


The Kaplan Leadership Program (KLP) is looking for students that understand the importance of a great education in building a successful career. If you are a high achiever with ambitions to challenge yourself and become a leader in your profession and community, apply!

We are looking for students that meet the following criteria:

  • Achievement and Academic Ability: Possess strong academic record at the community college that includes consistent course enrollment, degree progress, and grades. 
  • Financial need: Demonstrate financial need (Federal Pell and/or NY State Tap eligible) 
  • Persistence: Proven record of success while overcoming personal, academic and professional challenges. 
  • Leadership: Take initiative and be able to set a path to meet and exceed personal, academic and professional expectations. 
  • Desire to help others: Be an engaged global citizen, committed to putting your skills, abilities, and passion to work in order to improve the lives of others and society as a whole.
